MY STORY TO YOU.
I believe, we all had these pivotal moments in our lives that changes how we view the world. For me, i have moments and stories that have helped me have a new perspective on life and its purpose and has lit the spark of passion which has shaped my entire journey since.
Born and raised in Zimbabwe, i was introduced to the Mbira instrument by someone who i consider special in my life. Playing the Mbira opened up a world of expression, culture and connection that I had never experienced before. I got to be connected with many supporters and mentors who encouraged me in my pursuits, both academically and in my passion for the Mbira. Little did I know at the time how that support and encouragement from others to pursue my talent and dreams would eventually inspire me to create an entire movement dedicated to empowering dreamers worldwide. This is when I came up with the term By People for People, to show people that every action done by anyone can have a greater impact on others' lives. The people who supported me may have thought they were just supporting me, but they were also unknowingly helping many others through me.
The support and praise I received from friends, family, elders and strangers fueled my drive to improve. I started playing at gatherings and ceremonies myself. All the while, I never lost sight of the fact that none of this would have been possible without the support of others and that first helping hand that introduced me to this incredible instrument and art form. It was around this time that I began to feel a strong desire to give back in the same way that I had received, to pay forward the support and belief that others had shown in me. I started teaching mbira at primary schools and orphanages among other places. But still i wonder how could I create impact on a larger scale?
This was when the idea for Planet Moyz was born. With the knowledge that unity, social media and music has the power to transcend borders and can reach a larger audience i created an online platform called Planet Moyz where i sell my own curated products (Music, Apparel, Books etc) to create income generating projects dedicated to supporting others in need. I continued with my education at Midlands States University where i was doing Music Business, Musicology and Technology to further understand more about music so i can teach and produce to impact others.
Inspired by my journey to impact others, i have written a book called the Jigsaw Life which is available on Planet Moyz which shows how we are born different as humans with different gifts or passions which proves how everyone has a purpose to impact or inspire others from their gifts, passions or what they can do best. It delves into the importance of self-discovery, having a vision, and reflects on the profound ways in which we are all interconnected as humans.
I am also working on music albums based on the Jigsaw life book which I believe will provide further insights that can impact people. I am also blending my African Mbira rhythms with modern genres like Drill, Trap, Ama piano, Afro pop and more in these albums, creating something amazing and by the time you might be reading this, some of the albums might be done so I encourage you to check them out on the Planet Moyz website store.
Looking back, I'm continually amazed at how one small act of kindness decades ago set me on a path that has allowed me to try to impact so many. Every day I am reminded that each one of us has the power to inspire others simply through our words and actions. A smile, a word of encouragement, a small act of kindness, these simple gestures can profoundly change the course of someone's life.
Ultimately, By People for People is an ethos reminding us that our actions no matter how small, have a greater potential to impact others or the coming generation both for better or for worse. Yes, the ripple effect is not limited to positive actions alone. Negative actions can also create a ripple effect, perpetuating a cycle of harm and negativity. Think about how a hurtful comment or an act of aggression can create a ripple of pain, spreading through individuals and communities. I believe when we understand this, we can all have the potential to create a more just, equitable, joyful and a purposeful existence. By People For People phrase is not limited to supporting people physically but it extends to every facet of life. Doing things just because we have to do them, not because we only want to, is what By People for People represents.
Conclusively, I shared my story with you to show how the support from others, without any expectation of something in return, can light a flame in someone strong enough to light another's way. To all who ignite the passions of dreamers everywhere, THANK YOU for your belief that makes believers of us all. My hope is that through Planet Moyz, we can create ripple effects of support that empower dreamers for generations to come, as I was empowered. Our work proves that by standing together, and through our shared humanity, we have the ability to make people's wildest hopes and visions a reality.
